Life Without Lupus - Wheels for a Life without Lupus: Two-a-Days

Two-a-Days

Coach used to call them that. One in the morning, and one at night. With one more week of early and late light, I thought I'd get a few extra rides in, and what a morning today was. Wow. Along Oyster Bay, Oyster Bay Cove, Bayville, Long Island, it was a spectacular and cool morning along the shores. And, no wind. Great riding day. I read about two world-class, US Olympic bike racers, Juli Furtado (Mountain Biking) and Dr. Christine Thorburn (Road, Time Trial), who have lupus in their lives. Juli is a former national champion who had to retire because of the fatigue associated with it, and Dr. Thorburn is a rheumatologist who doesn't have the disease but is working in the field of Lupus to find new treatments and a cure. Hopefully, we can track them down and rally the cause!

Years before I was diagnosed with SLE and Fibromyalgia, I would spend hours mountain biking the Canon behind my parents home. Now some day's I have to use a wheel chair just to get some simple shopping done at Target. Thank you so much for inspiring me with the details of your ride on Tuesday. I would love to feel that thrill and vigor again. To smell the crisp morning ocean air and survive the sun on my face would take a miracle. Ride on Chris, you are a blessing to us all..!!!!

I am so encouraged the word LUPUS is beginning to be heard. I am so sorry your daughter has been diagnosed with this dreadful disease. I have lupus and MS. It's been a hardship for years. I couldn't imagine it being one of my girls. Frankly, I'm glad it's me who's sick. My heart goes to your daughter and your Family.
Please let us know when you will be in Charlotte. We moved to Harrisburg almost 1 year ago. Due to finances as well as being scared of how to sit in the bleachers have caused us not to attend. Yet, We can watch the TV and hear the engines in our back yard it's almost like being there. I wish you all the success and Thank You so much for spreading the word.
If you and your family need a place to stay while passing through Charlotte Please feel to contact myself or my husband Bob at hoffmansgirl1 at aol We welcome all of you!
Thank You Again
Good Wishes, Health and Happiness Always,
Diane and Bob

Kametzinger & Hoffsmansgirl1: I'm riding for you. Know that you are heard and that now thousands of others are rooting you on, too. Curing Lupus is now a mission that cannot be stopped. The science and clinical trials going on now are beginning to figure it out - I've met the doc's and scientists working on this disease. I can tell you that they even more possessed than I am. Godspeed -
